Former President Trump Speaks From Mar-a-Lago About Hush Money Charges
Former President Donald Trump delivered remarks at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida following his arraignment in New York City. He said, “The only crime that I have committed is to fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it.” Earlier in the day, Mr. Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Prosecutors allege Mr. Trump falsified the records in order to cover up other crimes, including an alleged scheme to influence the 2016 presidential election by suppressing negative information about Trump, with hush money payments made to various individuals. Donald Trump is the first former U.S. president to be indicted.
