2006 White House Correspondents' Dinner: At the annual dinner, White House Correspondents' Association president Mark Smith served as master of ceremonies. Ken Walsh presented youth scholarships, and Ann Compton presented awards to colleagues for their work during the previous year. Incoming WHCA president Steve Scully presented C-SPAN video clips of presidential humor from President Kennedy through the current president. President Bush’s humorous after-dinner presentation included an impersonator, Steve Bridges, who stood beside him and “interpreted” the president’s remarks. Following the president, comedian Stephen Colbert made humorous remarks about various current events and the relationship between the press and the White House. He also presented a video of a mock press conference which ended in a chase scene featuring long-time White House correspondent Helen Thomas.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton delivered a keynote address at Columbia University about the criminal justice system and incidents of police violence against unarmed black men in Ferguson, New York, South Carolina, and Baltimore. She called for broad criminal justice reforms, including mandatory use of body cameras by U.S. police departments and sentencing reform. She spoke at the 18th annual David N. Dinkins Leadership and Public Policy Forum in the Low Memorial Library Rotunda at Columbia University.

2017 White House Correspondents' Dinner
Journalists, politicians, and celebrities gathered for the White House Correspondents' Association annual dinner. Hasan Minhaj, a comedian and senior correspondent on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” provided the entertainment for the occasion. Speakers included journalist Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, who talked about the role of journalists.
President Trump did not attend, the first time a president had not spoken at the event since President Carter in 1980. President Reagan did not attend in 1981 because he was recovering from being shot in an assassination attempt.
