Secret Service: Man arrested, accused of breaking windows at JD Vance's home
A man has been taken into custody by Cincinnati police after officers and Secret Service agents responded to the Cincinnati home of Vice President JD Vance overnight. WLWT's cameras captured what appears to be damage to the windows of the home.
Officers were on scene in the East Walnut Hills area for several hours, going in and out of the house.The Secret Service confirmed to WLWT that a man has been taken into custody by Cincinnati police after he was detained by Secret Service personnel. Officials say the man has been arrested for "causing property damage, including breaking windows on the exterior of a personal residence associated with the Vice President."The agency says it happened shortly after midnight early Monday morning. Secret Service is coordinating with CPD and the U.S. Attorney's Office. According to an arrest report obtained by WLWT, a man from Hyde Park, 26-year-old William DeFoor, has been arrested in connection to the damage done at the home. In a statement of facts, DeFoor is accused of being seen by a Secret Service agent and on security footage walking onto the property without permission and damaging four windows, as well as a vehicle.DeFoor has been charged with criminal damaging/endangering, obstructing official business and criminal trespass, all misdemeanors, as well as one count of vandalism, a fifth-degree felony.
Vance was in Cincinnati for the last week. He left Sunday afternoon. "I appreciate everyone's well wishes about the attack at our home. As far as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows. I'm grateful to the secret service and the Cincinnati police for responding quickly. We weren't even home as we had returned already to DC. One request to the media: we try to protect our kids as much as possible from the realities of this life of public service. In that light, I am skeptical of the news value of plastering images of our home with holes in the windows," Vance said in a statement posted to X.WLWT is learning more about Defoor's criminal history and previous charges.In 2023, Defoor was arrested for trespassing at UC Health's Psychiatric Emergency Services building and failing to disclose personal information. He was found not competent to stand trial and charges were dismissed. In 2024, he was charged with two counts vandalism for breaking a front window to a Hyde Park business. Records show DeFoor was granted "treatment in lieu of conviction" and treatment was still ongoing.This is a developing story and will be updated when we learn more.
