Al Goodwyn @Al_Goodwyn - Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey, the dynamic duo of Minnesota's political theater, stand atop their ivory towers gazing down at the chaos they've helped create. As they stoke tensions within the public, the obvious result is an escalation of violence. Clearly their actions are just feckless, political moves, as effective as a choreographed dance number from West Side Story at selling a toughness façade. But the attention and drama help feed their hunger for Democrat street cred.
If they really believed the situation required a dangerous show of force, they would use similar language to their state/local law enforcement with direct actionable orders against feds. They literally have an army at their disposal. This would of course be disastrous and remarkably close to a civil war. With mobs of citizens, these two Minnesotans don’t risk getting their pristine political suits getting dirty; they can just toss rhetoric into the crowd like gasoline-soaked confetti floating through a cigar bar.
Instead, how about a little cooperation and negotiation out of the public’s eye? In the process, they can show their toughness and not their TDSness. The current tactic is simply empty foaming-at-the-mouth public grandstanding.
But martyrs help sell the narrative allowing Walz and Frey to distance themselves from the conflict. Using the public, though, smells of politics, weakness, desperation, and a complete lack of leadership.
