Buzz Patterson @BuzzPatterson - I flew some special ops in the Air Force in the C-141 out of Charleston AFB, SC. Once, I was launched in the middle of the night to fly DELTA force to the Middle East to interdict some terrorism bullshit. Jihadists had hijacked a cruise ship and killed an American and held several others hostage. It was the Achille Lauro.
We were based in Sicily and on alert for two weeks. Studying plans, watching the ship’s movements, etc. Ready to launch at a moments notice.
Ultimately, we captured the terrorists and detained them for the Italian government.
We did our job and flew back to the US. For some reason, we were forced to clear customs upon our arrival in Norfolk, Virginia, even though I had a letter signed from President sayig we were exempt.
The customs guy made us unpack our luggage. I told the dude, “you probably don’t want to do this.” He insisted.
The DELTA guys complied and pulled out some of the most badass weaponry I’ve ever seen! The customs dude looked at me and was like, “Wow. OK, carry on.”
Just another day reaching out and touching the bad guys.
