Craig Caplan @CraigCaplan - With the federal gov’t closed today due to yesterday’s winter storm, the Senate returns later today at 3pm from its state work period but no votes will take place until tomorrow due to the weather. Senate GOP leaders still plan to hold votes this week on the House-approved 6-spending package funding most of the gov’t through Sept. 30 to a avert a shutdown. While the gov’t funding deadline is Friday at midnight, most Senate Democrats have announced following the ICE shooting in MN that they plan to vote No if DHS/ICE funding remains in the spending package. @cspan 2

ICE plays an important role in upholding our laws and protecting national security. Law enforcement officers and first responders, who are called upon to make split-second decisions in dangerous situations, are in difficult and often dangerous circumstances.
I believe all public servants have a responsibility to lower the temperature around immigration enforcement, and no one should impede ongoing law enforcement actions.
