Seattle Mayor Demands Her Police Track ICE Activity

SEATTLE, WA – Seattle’s recently-elected mayor, who identifies politically as a socialist, is playing a dangerous game of politics that teeters on sedition by ordering local police to stalk Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and “investigate” their activities while having the police force siphon gathered intel to “community organizers.”
Back in November, Katie Wilson won the mayoral race in Seattle in what some outlets have described as “an upset” due to the low voter turnout and Wilson having won the race by only a few thousand votes in a city home to nearly 1 million residents.
Seattle is no stranger to radical mayors; for instance, consider the phrase “summer of love” sarcastically used by media pundits still to this day to describe the 2020 BLM riots. The aforemtioned phrase was coined by none other than former Seattle mayor Jenny Durkin when she downplayed the violence playing out in the autonomous zone created by rioters in the city at the time.
While former Mayor Durkin’s “summer of love” comment was in poor taste and objectively dumb, as was also her handling of the riots in her city back in 2020, her ineptitude and inaction wasn’t criminal. However, Mayor Wilson, who was sworn into office earlier in January, is already looking to usurp her predecessors in terms of absurd actions mobilized under her direction, ordering local police to engage in conduct that seems awfully seditious.
On January 29th, Mayor Wilson took to social media to share an active initiative she’s tasked the Seattle Police Department (SPD) with, which directs police officers to essentially act as anti-ICE activists aimed at disrupting federal enforcement operations.

In Mayor Wilson’s own released statement regarding “federal immigration enforcement activities,” she detailed the following:
Direct SPD to investigate, verify, and document ICE activity
Mandate SPD’s verified information is shared with community partners
Prohibit ICE from staging operations on City property
Invest $4 million to support immigrant communities
Establish the Stand Together Seattle Initiative
Regarding the directive handed down to local police by the mayor’s office, Mayor Wilson’s announcement further detailed, “If dispatched to [a] location where ICE activity is underway, SPD will: Document activity with video; Validate status of federal agents through identification; Secure scenes of potentially unlawful acts to gather evidence for transmittal to prosecutors.”
