Reel America: "The Negro Sailor" - 1945. This 1945 U.S. Navy film follows a draftee from his civilian job at a black newspaper through boot camp and an assignment in the Pacific. Completed after the surrender of Japan, the film celebrates teamwork, diversity, and the actions of several distinguished African American sailors. The film was restored by the National Archives in 2016.

African American Civil War Museum Statue Dedication. Historians and policymakers spoke about emancipation at the dedication of a bronze sculpture of President Abraham Lincoln in advance of the re-opening of the African American Civil War Museum in Washington, DC.
