Last night I asked President Trump to help the people of California due to outrageous fire zone reclassification. The example was my subdivision in the desert which went from a non-listed fire zone to the highest possible hazard equivalent to mountain cities such as Paradise, CA. This will immediately damage property values, insurance will be cancelled and the California FAIR plan will benefit which I suspect is the entire intent. In attempting to determine what has changed I have identified one individual and a local fire model change that are the root cause of reclassification. State Fire Marshal Daniel Berlant who was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom on October 6, 2023 is the direct cause of the fire model change which emphasized wind carried embers resulting in a significant increase in fire hazard severity. Locally the surrounding desert ground cover identification was changed from a mix of GS1 and GR2 ground cover which is sparse shrubs with less than 50% cover and low load dry grass both of which are appropriate for the area. The area was changed to GS2 only which is 1-3ft shrubs with 30-50% coverage which is far beyond actual and the direct cause of reclassification. Roads were also deleted from the model. It appears from LANDFIRE data that the entire valley area had an increase in fuel bed per the model and that is the data most significantly changing classification. I suspect this was a "simple" model change to the "default" California land classification despite being inaccurate that is being used to allow insurance agencies to drop wildfire policy coverage and force people onto the FAIR plan. Someone at the LANDFIRE.gov site must also be involved for an entire region fuel bed to be reclassified particularly when it has been dry here due to "climate change". The FAIR plan is in deep financial trouble after the Palisades fire and needs more income. This smells like a conspiracy to defraud the people of California once again while pointing at science as the cause. I hope President Trump can flush out the fraudsters here and finally put them in prison.
