For a country that has persistently supported Palestinian independence, championed a two-state solution and advanced this commitment through the multilateral UN system, this decision carries serious risks. Although the Foreign Ministry refers to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025), the Board of Peace Charter makes no explicit mention of Gaza or Palestine, raising questions about whether the initiative genuinely addresses Gaza or reflects Donald Trumps ambition to establish a miniUN Security Council that sidelines the UN system.
Concerns also lie in the credibility, structure and membership of the board. Trumps administration has shown little effort to halt military attacks against civilians in Gaza, has framed Gaza as an opportunity for redevelopment, and promoted a 20-Point Gaza Peace Plan that is silent on accountability. The board includes no Palestinian representative, concentrates authority in the hands of Trump himself, and reproduces flaws Indonesia has long criticized in global governance, risking high reputational costs, limited influence, and diplomatic fallout, including the prospect of sharing a platform with Israel.
