It’s not something you can fake. It’s not something you can train for.
The thing near every VC winner had was a deep desire to help people.
The vast majority were eldest sons of large families or widows. Not all but the majority.
Nearly all were people who shouldered great responsibility at a young age.
What’s so impressive about this award is it’s not something you can train for. It’s not luck. It’s not “bravery”.
It’s truly and honestly taking responsibility for those around you.
And all those ribbons and badges tell the story of Slover doing that over and over and over again. Taking responsibility for the mission and his brothers in battle.
These people truly are the best of us.
