As someone who has spent her life outside of politics as a physician, a small business owner, a mother, and someone who has worked in the real world, I believe government works best when it is made up of people who understand everyday life.
That means service, not careerism.
I support a constitutional amendment establishing term limits for members of Congress. A reasonable structure would be two terms in the Senate and three terms in the House.
And I want voters to know this is not just talk. I have already signed the term limits pledge committing that I will co-sponsor and vote for term limits in Congress.
My opponent, Cindy Hyde-Smith, has not signed that pledge.
We also have to be honest about something. Congress is very unlikely to vote to immediately end their own careers.
One practical path forward is to include a grandfather provision for current members, meaning term limits would apply going forward rather than forcing sitting members out immediately. That makes it much more realistic for the amendment to pass while still fixing the problem long term.
Another path is through the states. The Constitution allows states to push for amendments when Washington refuses to act. If enough states demand term limits, Congress will eventually have to listen.
Mississippi deserves representation that answers to voters, not to a permanent political establishment.
Tomorrow I will talk about another reform Washington desperately needs: banning stock trading by members of Congress.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders @SarahHuckabee - Video: Three years ago, too many Arkansas’ students were struggling and teachers were stretched thin.
Today, our schools are stronger than ever, teachers are supported, and students are thriving.
That’s the power of Arkansas LEARNS!
