US Department of the Interior @Interior - On March 5, 1770, a violent confrontation between Colonists and British soldiers in the streets of Boston helped change the course of American history.
In what became known as the Boston Massacre, a clash that began with taunting ended in the deaths of five Colonists. An engraving by Paul Revere depicting the event circulated widely and intensified colonial anger toward British rule.
As America 250 approaches, we remember the lives lost that night and the resolve that helped shape our nation’s path to independence.
