POTUS spoke before opening up to other speakers at the roundtable include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Speaker Mike Johnson, New York Yankees president Randy Levine, former Alabama head coach Nick saban, NCAA president Charlie Baker, Florida Gov. Trump called meeting not only important for college sports but “future of colleges.”
Said he would continue to pursue and executive order on name, image, and likeness (NIL)
“We have college players that don’t want to go the NFL because they are making more in college.”
Said federal legislation is needed to “set simple common sense rules without litigation and NIL state preemption” or colleges will be destroyed financially.”
“I’d like to sign an executive order that I’ll write myself based on common sense….id like to write an executive order based on some of the great talent in this room…we’re going to do it very well thought out…a lot of you are going to be involved in that…that will be placed before the courts and hopefully a judge with common senses will allow it through”
“It’s going to let colleges survive it’s going to let players survive, and let’s see if it gets through the court system.”
