Newsom was dating his current wife (Jennifer Siebel) when the scandal became public. Siebel defended Newsom, bashed Ruby Rippey-Tourk as the "culprit" and then reached out to Harvey Weinstein (whom she had previously slept with) for advice on how Gavin should handle the media. Today Siebel claims she is a fighter for women.
After the affair became public, Gavin claimed that he too had alcohol problems and was going to rehab. He publicly announced that he had entered an outpatient rehab program. He was re-elected for Mayor later that year. During his run for Governor in 2018, Newsom began completely denying ever going to rehab or even ever having a problem with alcohol. In 2018 he was probably already starting to clean up his past in preparation for a future Presidential run.
