>>178584White House Press Pool Reports @WHPressPool - VP Pool Report #7 — Vance on gas prices, Iran and Joe Kent
Motorcade left the event at 12:34PM EDT and arrived back at Oakland County International Airport at 12:55PM. Pool was hurried on to the plane and did not see VP board AF2.
Select quotes below on gas prices, Iran and Joe Kent from the Q&A earlier, please check against the official transcript.
AF2 wheels began rolling at 1:07PM.
Vance said gas prices were "up," adding: "We know that people are hurting because of it, and we're doing everything that we can to ensure that they stay low. This is a temporary war. It's not going to last forever. We're going to take care of business. We're going to come back home. When that happens, you're going to see energy prices come back down."
Asked about Joe Kent's resignation, Vance said "nobody likes war," adding: "I guarantee the President of the United States is not interested in getting us…into the kind of long term quagmires that we've seen in years past.
Vance said Trump has said "consistently" that Iran "cannot have another weapon…That's all this is about. We don't want the Iranians to have a nuclear weapon."
Vance said he knew Kent "a little bit," adding: "I like Joe Kent…But it's one thing to have a disagreement of opinions. I know the president very well…he likes it when people express their views about what should happen. He listens to everybody."
"That said, whatever your view is, when the President of the United States makes a decision, it's your job to help make that decision as effective and successful as possible. And so the president said this yesterday, if you are on the team and you can't help implement the decisions of his administration, he has the right to make those decisions, then it's a good thing for you to resign, and I think that's exactly right."
"It's fine to disagree. So once the president makes a decision, it's up to everybody who serves in his administration to make it as successful as possible. That's how I do my job. I think that's how everybody in the administration should do their jobs."
