The timing of events is notable becuase it had been simultaneously floated that he, too, was interested in running for the same seat. And, given how popular he was, he could well have won.
Keep in mind that her campaign for the seat started in early July 1999, when she filed paperwork with the FEC... and his plane went down while approaching the island of Nantucket just days later, on July 16th.
Hildabeast would have been keenly aware of his star factor, and that it would have doomed her chances. Don't overlook the fact that if he did run and win, he would have messed up her preordained path towards the presidency, b/c this seat was supposed to provide her resume the validation she'd need to run for president in 2016.
Turns out, getting in her way is a bad idea for people interested in maintaining their addiction to breathing.
This is exactly where I believe that the prospect of her targeting him for destruction was predictable enough that maybe it was also then counted on for that very reason. The powers that be may well have greased the proverbial skids to get her to attempt to take him out so that the incident could be used as cover to extricate him fromt the public eye.
The point being that we all know how HRC deals with people who get in her way. So simply floating his interest publicly would have presented a unique opportunity to goad her into targeting him for destruction.

The farm equipment industry had adopted a model to maximize profits by preventing farmers from repairing their own equipment or using independent shops. This effectively forced them to use only the more official dealerships for more expensive repairs and parts.
