The Gran Grif gang, led by Luckson Elan, claimed responsibility for the assault and said it was retaliation for rival attacks on its base in Savien.
Around 6,000 people have fled, with more than 50 homes and vehicles burned. Haitian police, supported by the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission, intervened, but rights groups condemned what they called a “revolting passivity” in the face of the killings, according to Al Jazeera.
The violence highlights the spread of gang control beyond the capital. The same group was widely believed to be behind a 2024 massacre in Pont Sondé that killed over 100 people.

Israel has opened a new front in its campaign by targeting roads in Lebanon’s west Bekaa Valley, an area along the Syrian border where Hezbollah has a strong presence, according to Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr.
The strikes hit routes connecting towns like Yohmor, Suhmor, and Loubaya, and a key road linking west Bekaa to southern Lebanon.
The apparent goal is to cut off movement and isolate Hezbollah-held areas, disrupting supply lines between eastern and southern Lebanon. In recent weeks, Israel also struck bridges over the Litani River.
