Good morning from sunny Budapest,
We had an uneventful flight from JBA, and no visitors to the press cabin.
AF2 touched down at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc airport at 1036 CEST. The VP and the Second Lady deplaned at 1053. They were greeted on the red carpet by Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Caroline Savage, the Charge d’affaires of the US Embassy in Hungary.
The red carpet was flanked by a guard of honor with a US flag and a Hungarian flag at the end.
The motorcade is now rolling to the Carmelite Monastery in Budapest, where the VP will participate in a bilateral meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
FPPO: Following the bilateral with the PM, there will be an expanded bilateral after which both Vance and Orbán will give remarks to press. After this the VP will give separate remarks at an event in the late afternoon CEST. Will update with more specific guidance on timings as soon as we have it.
Correction. Pool note #1 misspelled the given name of the Hungarian Prime Minister. It should have read Viktor Orbán.
