VP's motorcade arrived at MCC at 1112 CEST.
Balazs Orban, MCC’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the political Director to Prime Minister Viktor Orban gave opening remarks starting at 1121 CEST ahead of the VP's arrival onto the stage.
VP was on stage at 1127. The format of the discussion is a fireside chat, moderated by Zoltan Szalai, Director General of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium. The conversation is expected to last 30 minutes.
Asked by Szalai why he agreed to speak at MCC. Vance responded: “So much of the academy has tried to destroy the foundations of western civilization.” He said MCC has shown that it is possible to have a university that tries to build up the foundations of western civilization.
The VP downplayed the idea that his visit to Hungary ahead of the elections was foreign interference. "I find it darkly ironic that people are accusing me of engaging in some kind of foreign influence, all that we're saying is that Viktor Orban, he does a good job."
"The reason why we're doing it is because we thought there was so much garbage happening against Viktor in this election that we had to show that there are actually a lot of people and a lot of friends across the world who recognize that Viktor and his government are doing a good job, and they're important partners for peace."
