Here’s what happened:
— 2 AM in DC — police get a call about suspicious activity around a car
— They approach — two people bolt out of the car, doors open
— Driver throws it in reverse and tries to flee
— Police stop the driver — the car is stolen
— Juvenile found responsible for possessing a stolen vehicle
The DC Court of Appeals: Let the kid go. The police were wrong to stop him.
The Supreme Court’s response: We’re not even going to dignify this with oral arguments. Summary reversal — the rarest and most humiliating rebuke a lower court can receive.
The message to the DC Court of Appeals: “Follow the law as we tell you it is and stop making it up as you go along.” Stop coddling juveniles. Start protecting the people of DC.
When the Supreme Court won’t even let you file a brief before overturning you, that’s not a disagreement — it’s a public shaming.
