Wolf of X @WolfofX - In 1982, truck driver Larry Walters attached dozens of helium weather balloons to a lawn chair for what he expected would be a short backyard flight. Instead, the chair rose to about 16,000 feet over the Los Angeles area and drifted into controlled airspace, where airline pilots later reported seeing him.
After roughly 90 minutes, Walters began descending by shooting some of the balloons. During landing, the chair became tangled in power lines before he was safely rescued without serious injury. The FAA later fined him for violating airspace regulations, and the incident attracted worldwide media attention.
