They never changed their story. They never revealed the secret and they never broke under pressure.
Then, October 13, 1917 our Lady gave everyone the miracle they were asking as evidence.
Despite the mud and the skepticism of the secular press, the Lady appeared one final time, identifying herself as the Lady of the Rosary and requesting that a chapel be built there in her honor. Then, the "Miracle of the Sun" occurred as a validation for the world.
The sun emerged as a disc that could be looked at without strain, spinning like a wheel of fire and casting brilliant colors across the faces of the 70,000 witnesses before appearing to plummet toward the earth.
The sheer terror of the crowd turned to awe when the sun returned to its place and everyone realized that their rain-soaked clothes were suddenly and inexplicably dry.
But here's what few people know: It wasn’t just in Fatima. The miracle was seen from miles away, in towns like Alburitel, 13 miles out, and even beyond. One witness saw it from 40 km away, unaware of any prediction.
To this day, no scientific explanation has ever sufficed. Solar activity? Impossible. No one else on earth reported it. Mass hallucination? Seen miles away. Atmospheric phenomena? Leaves no one dry.
This was a divine act witnessed by the modern world.
In the years that followed, the story shifted from the public miracle to the private sacrifices of the children.
Francisco and Jacinta died young during the flu pandemic, exactly as predicted, spending their final days in intense prayer. They are canonized saints of the church now.
Lúcia moved into the cloister, where she continued to receive visions that clarified the message of Fátima for nearly a century, witnessing the world navigate the very wars and trials the Lady had forewarned.
Sister Lucia lived a life of penance and totally dedicated to the message of Fátima and devotion to the Immaculate heart.
When she finally passed away in 2005, she left behind a legacy that transformed a quiet Portuguese field into a global beacon of hope for the entire world
Saint Francisco and Saint Jacinta pray for us! Let us all pray for the canonization of Sister Lucia!
