Trump was heard saying on his way into the tea room that Xi was giving him roses for the Rose Garden.
The room itself was opulent with a huge gold carpet, wood paneling and large windows. Trump and Xi sat on armchairs with a table with flowers on between them and vases with large bouquets of pink flowers behind them.
The two delegations sat facing each other.
