The pitot tube, which senses airspeed, froze over in a storm. That kicked off the autopilot. The two pilots took control, but over-controlled the jet & eventually locked the stick back, keeping the nose high & stalling.
The Captain came in. Some words were exchanged, at which point one of the pilots revealed he’d been holding his stick back the whole time…the other pilot couldn’t have known this. The Captain overheard the comment & immediately knew this was the cause, but it was too late to lower the nose & recover. The jet hit the water relatively flat, like a pancake
