Democrats passed the Community Trust Act, Senate Bill 791, effectively turning Maryland into a Sanctuary State
The new law:
- Limits honoring ICE detainers. Local jails and corrections cannot hold someone beyond their scheduled release date for ICE
- Prohibits local law enforcement from proactively notifying ICE about individuals in custody or inquiring into immigration status in many routine situations
- Bans using local resources for federal civil immigration enforcement in most cases
These sheriffs are arguing this New Democrat law obstructs federal law and violates sheriffs’ constitutional duties
They seek to block the law before it takes full effect later in 2026
Democrats only work for illegals. They’re willing to put everyone in danger just for their illegal voters
