FBI Director Kash Patel @FBIDirectorKash - May 28: Busting fraud during the @FIFAWorldCup
This FBI is incredibly focused on crushing the cruel and corrupt fraud rings that target unsuspecting Americans especially during major sporting events. Through our targeted investigations, our Internet Crime Complaint Center that triages and farms out reported fraud, as well as our active role in the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud @WHFraudTF, every day during the games FBI will be working with our interagency partners and slamming fraudsters.
This will be similar to the work FBI and partners did in other recent cases, for example:
-Last week in Minnesota, with a huge $90 million public healthcare fraud takedown with 15 indictments of subjects who allegedly robbed public programs
-Our recent scam center takedown out of India, where this FBI shut down a massive call scam center operation responsible for $50 million in social security losses for American seniors
-Our op with partners out of southeast Asia, where we arrested almost 300 subjects, freed thousands of trafficked workers and shut down multiple scam centers tied to billions in cryptocurrency fraud.
This @FBI is more laser focused in taking down fraud than ever and we’re not stopping.
We urge you to be especially aware of the following scams during the tournament:
- Counterfeit tickets and too-good-to-be-true deals
- Rental scams targeting those who lease their properties as well as travelers and guests
- Sports and memorabilia fraud, including forged autographs and fake merchandise.
