White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud @WHFraudTF - It’s Accountability Week for states which are not aggressively prosecuting Medicaid fraud and elder abuse. States receive hundreds of millions of federal dollars to fund Medicaid Fraud Control Units to fight fraud. Many states, however, have little to show for it. States MUST up their game and become as focused on fighting fraud, waste, and abuse as the @VP and @WHFraudTF are. 🧵

White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud @WHFraudTF - This week, @OIGatHHS turned off ~$60 million a year of YOUR taxpayer dollars that were going to @NewYorkStateAG Letitia James’ office. The New York MFCU is among the least productive of all MFCUs. Over the past five years among similarly sized units, New York has had:
-by far the lowest number of criminal Medicaid fraud convictions
-the lowest number of Medicaid fraud indictments
-the lowest number of Medicaid patient abuse-or-neglect convictions and indictments
Much smaller state MFCUs are outperforming New York. Bottom line, New York is not effectively prosecuting fraud and elder abuse.

White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud @WHFraudTF - Let’s dig into the data. In 2025, New York received over $100 billion in Medicaid funding. Letitia James’ office is responsible for ensuring that your tax dollars are not stolen or wasted. Her MFCU has over 270 staff. Last year, they charged 9 cases. Total. In fact, from 2021-2025, her MFCU averaged 9 fraud indictments per year. By comparison, Texas indicted 197 cases in 2025 with half of the budget and a 40% smaller staff.

White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud @WHFraudTF - Today, @OIGatHHS is putting NINE additional states—red states and blue states—on probation. These states also underperform in their job to fight fraud. HHS-OIG is holding these states accountable for their productivity. Before this Administration, these were rubber stamped, regardless of whether they effectively fought fraud. That has now ended.
