White House Press Pool Reports @WHPressPool - Travel note 18: POTUS jokes re: 2028 run
POTUS opened his remarks as if he was announcing a run for re-election in 2028, when he will be ineligible due to his serving his second term at this very moment.
"Well, thank you very much, everybody. It's a special place, and I am here to announce my candidacy I'm only kidding," he said.
POTUS is now discussing his attendance at the Dignified Transfer this morning he referred to it as a "ceremony," though Air Force Public Affairs was emphatic in stressing to pool this morning that it should not be referred to as such.
Speaking of the late Lt. Tyler Feehan, whose family accompanied him from Dover to Georgia aboard Air Force One, he says: "He was a person that was going all the way. He was going to be a general. He would have been a general very quickly. He was heading in that path."
POTUS again said attending the Dignified Transfer is "the toughest thing" he did as president before addressing Lt. Feehan's family: "To Sherry and Stephen and David, we will carry Tyler's memory in our hearts forever, and I just want to thank you. It's an honor to have you here today."
The crowd applauded loudly for the family at that point.

White House Press Pool Reports @WHPressPool - Travel note 19: Rare mention of Operation Warp Speed
POTUS touted his decision to fund development of the Covid-19 vaccine something he rarely mentions as he was discussing his economic record across both of his nonconsecutive terms.
"We did Operation Warp Speed, and I'll tell you, we did a great job, but we got very little credit for it. We should have been given big credit, but we got credit for everything else. And we had the best economy, but this this economy is ready to blow everything away ever of any country. There's never been anything like what's happening in the United States of America right now," he said.
