FBI Director Kash Patel @FBIDirectorKash - Out in the field for another important meeting with our regional Tribal partners in New Mexico – part of this FBI’s historic push to support Indian Country in ways never been done before.
We covered how to combat narcotics trafficking in tribal lands, the challenges reservations and tribal police face in addressing opioid epidemic and cartel activity on tribal lands, and the ramifications of the previous years of open borders flooding New Mexico tribal communities with deadly drugs – all of which this FBI is working with our tribal partners to address. Right now through Operation Steadfast Promise FBI has 400 agents and staff dedicated to working Indian Country, as well as 29 Safe Trails Task Forces - the FBI's largest ever commitment. We’ve also added 50 FBI National Academy spots – keeping a commitment made last year – to work in lockstep with tribal law enforcement so that they can be appropriately trained and resourced to address crime in Indian Country.
The results have been historic - over the last 18 months alone we’ve seized nearly 13 kilos of cocaine from tribal lands - twice the amount seized in the previous four years combined. We’ve also seized nearly 123 kgs of deadly meth from tribal communities in the last 18 months, equal to amount of meth seized in all of the Biden Admin.
Special thanks to our 11 tribal and police chiefs who attended including Pueblo of Jemez, Pueblo of Santa Ana, Pueblo of Tesque, Pueblo of Sandia, Ramah Navajo, Santa Clara Pueblo Chief, Taos Pueblo, Pueblo of Zia, Jicarilla Apache PD and the Zuni PD. These brilliant partners are our best resource in this fight.
