But when it crosses to murdering another human being, and still keeping a resting heart rate beat... that is when the logic leans with "monsters and demons really do exist" rather than "we must try to understand their situation"

An adult living in a disruptive and unhealthy damaging relationship
is not in the same functional or responsibility class
as someone with a genuine mental illness.
If your brain is not working right, thats a different thing than having made choices that left a mark.
The same as someone who is fat because of diabetes due to having their pancreas removed after an auto accident
is not in the same class of cause and responsibility
as someone who's eating 6000 McDonald's calories and 4 litters of soda a day.
And some people are just broken. Empathy missing. Compassion non existent. The happy excited chemistry generated by doing evil, causing pain, exerting control, harming others.
