The zoo's website yields nearly 400 results for "climate change." Its 2023 diversity report outlines rainbow-themed animal enrichment, inclusive language initiatives, and partnerships with organizations that say DEI is "embedded in everything we do" and that "systemic racism is embedded in our structures."
The Smithsonian announced in January it was eliminating its Office of Diversity in line with the Trump administration's crackdown — but multiple staff profiles on the zoo's website still list DEI as part of their daily work, and the zoo continues partnering with groups that have made it a central mission.
