Lawrence Mayor Brian DePeña has been indicted on allegations involving more than $1.5 million in COVID small-business loans.
Massachusetts State Rep. Francisco Paulino, representing the 16th Essex District, was arrested and charged in a separate case involving more than $700,000 in alleged COVID unemployment-benefit and small-business-loan fraud.
