Exodus 14:14:
"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Today’s scripture is a promise God has given us in His Word. When you are a faithful Christian and you stand for truth, God is telling us “you need only be still.”
We all are immediately inclined to defend our worldview, our opinions, our faith. I caution you to prepare, we will be persecuted for telling the truth, revealing the truth, exposing the truth or fighting for the truth; you will be met with fierce opposition. However, when this happens and you have conducted yourself according to the Word of God, then I Peter 3:16 says, “…keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.” Now your opponents may not be ashamed of their duplicitous behavior now but God is watching over His Word and the Body of Christ - His Word will prevail. Now you can see why we must hold ourselves to the standards God asks of us so that in times of trouble, He watches over His Word and Promises to protect us.
When you are viciously attacked for the Word’s sake, for defending truth remember this is a spiritual battle ultimately conducted by "the accuser of the brethren, Satan.” (Revelation 12:10) Sometimes circumstances can become heated and in the midst of defending yourself in the media, your place of work, your local community do not resort to the evil practices of your enemy. Exodus 23:1 tells us, "Do not spread false reports. Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness.” Maintain the godly commandments you live by and stay above the mud slinging.
This is how our enemies operate; in Proverbs 11:9, it says, "With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.” They will actively seek to destroy any one who embraces opposing opinions and exhibit no hesitation to lie, cheat, steal, ruthlessly besmirch the integrity of another person. Please review the foundational scriptures listed below so we understand God’s perspective and how to appropriately react.
1. Romans 12:18-19 - "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.”
2. James 1:2-4 - "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
3. Matthew 5:11-12 - "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
4. Isaiah 54:17 - “ ..no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from Me,” declares the Lord.”
5. Proverbs 3:30 - “Do not accuse anyone for no reason — when they have done you no harm.”
6. I Thessalonians 5:15 - “Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.”
