Richard H. Ebright @R_H_Ebright - When university departments repeatedly hire and promote for DEI, instead of hiring and promoting for aptitude and accomplishment, they inevitably become dominated by mediocrities--or worse--and ultimately cease being functioning departments.

Timur Kuran @timurkuran - The present carving up of the academy is a 19th-century invention, not a sacred settlement. If sociology disappeared, economics and political science would absorb most of its intellectual work. Sociology’s sister disciplines already produce much valuable scholarship on mass mobilization, the family, fertility, discrimination, and the social bases of religion, among its other traditional concerns.
Setting aside the special case of hyper-politicized sociology, it is healthy for universities to wind down academic communities that have become corrupted.
