Presidential Candidate Donald Trump Remarks on Immigration Policy
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump outlined his plan to revamp the nation's immigration and national security laws during a campaign event at the Phoenix Convention Center in Arizona. Mr. Trump's remarks followed his meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto in Mexico City earlier that day where the two men discussed immigration and U.S.-Mexico relations. Mr. Trump reiterated his earlier calls for construction of an "impenetrable" wall on the southern U.S. border, as well as his claim that Mexico would pay for the wall, despite President Nieto telling reporters earlier that day that Mexico would not pay for a border wall. Mr. Trump hit on other points of his immigration plan as well, including a toughened stance on visitors who had overstayed their visas and a cancellation of two of President Obama's executive orders on immigration. Mr. Trump was joined on stage by parents whose children had been killed by illegal immigrants.
