An increasingly large share of what the government spends will be borrowed.
That’s a slippery slope.

Our debt has gotten so huge at $40.2 trillion that it requires 42% of all income taxes that are collected just for the interest payments.
$1.3 trillion this year will go to paying interest on the national debt. The US govt only collects about $3.1 trillion in 2026 income taxes.
