What about protecting Illinoisans?
Katie is a perfect example of state failure: a 20-year-old sitting at a red light, killed by a previously deported Guatemalan national who returned using a false identity and obtained an Illinois driver’s license under that alias.
Yet Illinois continues to keep a one-sided ledger of compassion.
Katie deserves to be on it.

Katie is dead.
I believe her death was preventable, and that Illinois failed to do the hard work of governing that could have reduced the foreseeable risks that helped create the circumstances leading to her death.
That failure was reckless and dangerous.
