Presidential Health Care Address
President Obama outlined his plan for health care reform before a joint session of Congress. In his remarks he acknowledged the fierce debate that had ensued during the congressional August recess (which he termed a "partisan spectacle"), recognized that health care reform solutions need significant compromise and devotion of resources, and called for legislators to bring their serious ideas to the table and dispense with oppositional nay-saying. He outlined a health care reform solution that included transportable individual health insurance, did not deny coverage to anyone, created affordable options within the marketplace, and he admonished irresponsible businesses and individuals for poor decisions in the provision of health care. Started in 1948, the Crazy Horse Monument in the Black Hills of South Dakota honors the Oglala Lakota Warrior and is the centerpiece of the campus that seeks to preserve the culture and tradition of all North American Indians. Jadwiga Ziolkowski, director of public affairs of the Crazy Horse Memorial, and Monique Ziolkowski, director of mountain carving, shared the history of the site and talked about their family's connection to the memorial. C-SPAN's Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their "2019 LCV Cities Tour" in Rapid City, South Dakota, from September 7-13, 2019, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2.
