U.S. Coast Guard @USCG - Sept. 27, 1942: Signalman 1st Class Douglas A. Munro shielded 10 landing craft evacuating nearly 500 Marines from Point Cruz, Guadalcanal. He was killed at 22. Every Marine got off the beach. Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday paid his respects earlier this month. Munro remains the only Coast Guardsman awarded the Medal of Honor. 84 years.
