>>194570TV News Now @TVNewsNow - Video: đ¨ NEW: Fox Newsâ @BritHume warns that Iranâs new âdealâ is one Trump shouldnât take: âThis latest offer that theyâve made is nothing that the President would readily accept â and he shouldnât.â
âIâm not particularly optimistic that they can make a deal that the United States could accept or trust.â
@BretBaier: The Iranians say they are talking tonight. The foreign minister says they are talking through mediators in Qatar, that Iran has presented a new deal. But really the question is what I asked the Iranian president last week, which was whoâs really running Iran and what can the U.S. get from dealing with the leadership as is?
Brit Hume: Well, General Keane thinks that the IRGC, the Revolutionary Guard â as militant a group as youâll find in Iran â is in charge there, and that what they say and agree to is not to be trusted. I think the president would like a deal. I donât know how he would ever feel that he could enforce it. But Secretary Bessent is now saying, as youâve heard, Bret â said it to you, I believe â that if they make a deal, if Iran makes a deal, theyâll stick to it. That obviously remains to be seen. It remains to be seen if indeed they can come up with a deal that the president would accept.
This latest offer that theyâve made is nothing that the president would readily accept â and he shouldnât. I do think, however, while all this is going on, that Iran is in a bad place right now. Their economy is in shambles. Theyâre claiming today, Bret â you saw that â theyâre saying that theyâre in control of the Strait of Hormuz, which is a funny thing to say when you canât get your own ships out, and theyâre not getting anything out, and theyâre soon going to be out of ships that are on the water already, and thatâs going to leave them with a very limited source of revenue. So theyâre in a bad spot there, and they may well decide they want to make a better deal than the one theyâve offered.
Bret Baier: Hereâs the president Saturday, asked about plans to maybe strike Iran before the midterms.
Bret Baier: The president said he wants specific nuclear concessions. He wants a lot of things. The Iranians tonight are saying they want this money unfrozen and sanctions lifted. Do you think thereâs any hope for any negotiation that actually works before the midterms?
Brit Hume: Well, I think this, Bret: that the president says he doesnât really care about the midterms. I think he cares a great deal about the midterms, and I think that his threat, as he put it, to start bombing after the midterms is probably, as much as anything, intended to give Iran the idea that if they donât make a deal before then, itâs going to be lights out. So thatâs where I think we are, but Iâm not particularly optimistic that they can make a deal that the United States could accept or trust.
