Trump said Minnesota, where the Iron ore is being mined for the Iowa steel plant, is “one of the worst run places,” in a reference to its Governor Tim Walz.
“Without those tariffs, this mine doesn’t get built,” Lutnick said.
Secretary Wright called the Iowa plant “the Trump re-industrialization of America hitting the ground at a serious scale.”
Mesabi Metallics chairman Rewant Ruia thanked Trump “for bringing back the importance of building things in America.”
Trump said the Essar Group, an Indian multinational conglomerate, which owns Mesabi Metallics is investing a total of $18 billion in the United States.
Iowa governor Kim Reynolds touted that the steel plant project will bring well-paying jobs to her state.
President Trump introduced Ashley Hinson as “A young lady who is hopefully going to elected to the Senate.”
Trump said he will visit Iowa soon for a rally to make sure Republicans get elected there in the November midterms.
