August 4, 2015 – Appeared on CNN New Day this AM at 7:40 to discuss the outbreak of Legionnaire’s Disease in NYC (South Bronx) with 81 cases and 7 deaths. Outbreak related to contaminated cooling towers on the top of buildings. Reminiscent of the 1976 outbreak at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel in Philadelphia. Again getting shit from HHS COMMS people (Leah Hunter) demanding “talking points” before she approves my going on TV, Radio, or Print. I am just going to go ahead without asking clearance. Also, just did CNN with Wolf Blitzer. Wolf was not there. Had a sub → Brianna Keilar.

2/ Early-onset Trump Derangement Syndrome.
The day after the inauguration, Dr. Fauci called the new President "amaxingly [sic] unpresidential!"
By 2019, he had a verdict: Trump "Should be impeached"

Senator Rand Paul @SenRandPaul - Photo: 4/ His reasoning: "We cannot criticize the study since that is exactly what the press is looking for, and then they will create a tension between HHS and WHO. HHS is too stupid to realize that"

important thing that was said that night. Also at the dinner were Valerie Jarrett, Rick Atkinson, Eric Holder, John Negroponte, and an up and coming young African-American female lawyer named Angela Dry. Angela was particularly impressed with my statement to Ben Carson. Again, another terrific evening with Catherine and Wayne Reynolds.
July 30, 2015 - Agnes Binagwaho, Health Minister of Rwanda, visited NIH and I went to her lecture in Masur Auditorium, met with her and her staff in my office and had dinner with her at La Ferme in Chevy Chase. We struck up a quick and warm relationship. I am pushing her (and she is responding as she feels the same way as I do) to truly try to end the AIDS epidemic in Rwanda. We will work together to develop a formula as to how to do that. She was accompanied by two young women (extremely accomplished already) who will start Harvard Medical School on August 2 and look upon me as a “legend”. They were delighted to meet me. Names: Kirstin Scott and Claire Wagner. They have been working for 1 to 3 years with Agnes as her personal staff.
They are on their way to stardom.
July 31, 2015 – Announcement of the “success” of the Ring vaccination trial for Ebola in Guinea made today by WHO. 17 infections in the delayed ring and 0 infections in the immediate ring. WHO selling this as a 100% effective breakthrough. Problem is that there are multiple flaws in the design and the analysis of the data that Phil Krause of FDA beautifully articulated. Bottom line is that we are dealing with an inherently good and effective vaccine that was put into a terribly flawed study design. And so now they (WHO, Norwegians, MSF) are claiming victory for the study, when it is the vaccine that could have proven effective in any study since it is so good. Such is life....
I gave congratulatory comment in the NY Times (Sheri Fink – reporter today) while still slipping in the fact that the data, strictly speaking, are not statistically significant.
