I have very pragmatic reasons for my position, all related to winning the war America has been fighting with Islamic Jihad for the past 50+ years. I have not turned into a sissified Neo-Con fancy boy, nor do I care even in the slightest what the “Oh we’re better than that” white flag surrender monkey crowd thinks. I believe we have long been in a war that Islam declared on America, and it’s a war we must win. That’s my sole concern here. (And yes, I know I am disagreeing on this live-streaming issue with people I normally agree with like Pete Hegseth, InfantryDort, Kurt Schlichter and Rob Maness, but that’s the beauty of being patriots: we can disagree on some peripheral issues while still agreeing on core principles. After all, we are not Democrats and we do not demand complete conformity of belief.)
My concerns are based in two issues: deterrence and jihadist recruitment.
1. Deterrence. Historically, and across almost all societies, the purpose of the death penalty and public executions have been to deter certain bad behaviors. Public executions served as a warning to not do certain things: don’t murder, don’t rape, don’t commit treason. With normal human beings, the psychology of this makes total sense. However, jihadists are not normal human beings. Jihadists crave martyrdom, they crave the rewards they believe Allah will shower upon them in the afterlife after they murder infidels and then die themselves in the process, and they lust for the same fate that Hassan is about to face. Bottom line: live-streaming Hassan’s execution will have zero deterrent factor.
2. Recruitment. Assume for a moment that the Army follows its own protocols for executions and Hassan is allowed last words. Assume that just before he is executed he shouts out “allahu ackbar” and some other pro-jihad nonsense. That will be recorded on the Internet for perpetuity. If that happens, we just did for Islamic Jihad recruitment what “Top Gun” did for US Navy recruitment back in the ‘80s, i.e. we just handed terrorist leaders everywhere the best possible recruitment video, a video that will be perpetual and constant, a video that memorializes Hassan as a martyr of great account. Further, we will be giving Hassan the glory that was the very basis for his murderous actions in the first place.
My concerns are strategic in nature only. I do not care even in the slightest about Hassan’s dignity or feelings, or the concerns of his family, or the concerns of the wailing Karens and Tylers spewing their defeatist attitudes of surrender and submission. We are in a WAR with Islamic Jihad and we should not be handing our enemies massive PR victories.
Those are my thoughts.
Having said that, and realizing that the die is likely cast and live-stream is inevitable, I think it is important that the live-stream be humiliating and not give Hassan the glory he wants. Humiliate him. Shave his beard. Make him wear Porky Pig pajamas ("That's all, folks!") that are three sizes too small. Have the firing squad consist solely of female Soldiers…
…and…
…MOST IMPORTANTLY…
…gag him and don’t give him the last words he so desperately wants to be filmed. Letting him have those last words will be a strategic victory for jihad.
Don’t let Hassan or our other sworn enemies have that victory.
