In a riff on law and order and punishing those who tear down statues, he referred to the planned execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army officer convicted of a mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. “We're giving the man the death penalty who killed 14 soldiers.” After applause, he added, “Death penalty through firing squad and he deserves it. He killed and wounded many, many people. A maniac.”
He added, “We need law and order and we are doing great. Washington now went from one of the most unsafe cities in the country, probably in the world to a totally safe city, considered one of the safest cities…. Kids would come in from Iowa to look at the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and they'd be killed. They'd die. They'd be shot. They'd be mugged. If they had a car, the car would be taken away. They'd be beat to hell.”
On his efforts to clean up Washington, he said, “One thing I noticed about the radical left, we go into some of these cities without naming because I'd like to see them come back, but they're always dirty.)
The sidewalks are disgusting. The streets are disgusting. They're just in bad shape. The doors going into stores are dirty. Then, back to Columbus:
