Colin M. McDonald @AAGMcDonald - Four Texas residents have been indicted in Dallas for allegedly promoting an illegal tax shelter that sheltered over $1.5B in income and cost the IRS an estimated $200M+.
The indictment alleges they sold clients sham trusts — for fees often topping $100,000. Additional allegations include tax evasion, filing false returns, and obstructing IRS audits.
One defendant is also charged with fraudulently soliciting $2M from investors and allegedly spending it on luxury goods, including a Rolls Royce Ghost and a yacht down payment.
An indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Colin M. McDonald @AAGMcDonald - 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR COVID FRAUDSTER
While families and small businesses fought to survive the pandemic, Mohammed Maio of Phoenix was cashing in.
He pocketed nearly $2.2 MILLION in COVID-19 relief loans for businesses with ZERO employees — then spent the money on himself, including buying multiple properties.
A convicted felon, Maio also had his own mother buy a gun for him, lying on the federal purchase form to obtain a firearm.
Yesterday, a federal judge sentenced him to 10 years behind bars.
Great work by U.S. Attorney Tim Courchaine, @USAO_AZ, @IRS_CI, & @ATFHQ for delivering justice in this case.
