pretty much, it's probably the same in the first world for actual geniuses too. I think the only way to make it through that stage unscathed is with a real support network, a fully functional family unit and/or a good group of friends that are similar enough to you to keep you aware of your value. But yeah they're pretty stupid, that's just my theory as to how the logic of their subconscious goes, there's no guarantee it'll actually produce satisfactory results for them. As with many things in nature it's only good enough to keep the species going, it's far from ideal. Very far I'd argue (and I'm sure you'd agree)
