Yeah. But no need to go so wide, you can just snip the tip. and angle-wise the ideal is diagonal across the grain.
Old square nails were always chisel like, modern wire nails are designed for nail guns or non-grained wood.
Of course, there are more variables and some woods are so finnicky you need to drill start or use very slim nails, etc...
I have restored a ton of old furniture, and watch a lot of Mathias Wandell, Diresta and Thomas Johnson.
