Do we know he was actually neger, or just was peasant brown enough so someone would write he is dark?
What weapons he carried? The japanese sword and knife combo? Then he just might have been actually samurai. Has to know the law at the exact time if peasants had 'em. Or were just Euro weapons? Cutlass or other sword, perhaps a firearm? Hatchet or stiletto? A pike?
