this goes hand in hand I think with the way that autistic people practically re-experience any events they can remember vividly. I haven't looked into it so take this with a grain of salt but apparently in autists the brain lights up the same way as if the events being remembered were transpiring there and then. which does also happen in "normal" people but to a lesser degree. so even if something doesn't make me fucking depressed when it actually happens, it still gets thousands of chances to do it for the rest of my life. yay. to be fair the youtube talking head that explained that also encouraged people to learn to find ways to cope with it, he wasn't as much of a doomer about it as I'm being now
